Chennai
(formerly known as Madras)

People told me there wasn't much of interest or much going on in Chennai.  I try not to listen to this kind of thing, as everyone's different and we should all form our own opinions.  Maybe it's that I'm easily amused or difficult to discourage, but I found that like other big Indian cities, Chennai had much to offer.  It was disappointing that I had such a short time there, but my India visa was running out so it was time to move on.

I think one reason that I like these cities that seem less exciting to others is that I walk most places where others would take a cab or a rickshaw?  There is so much going on that it is impossible to find boredom.  I was only beginning to discover Chennai.

I was definitely sad to be leaving India.  Chaos, noise, pollution and crowds, these had become normal to me.  There was always new discovery in the people, colors, foods and so much more.  Like many places I claim that someday I will return...

Looking for some photo to conclude the India experience, I found none.  I did, however make a sound recording of a blind couple singing on the train to the airport.  There is some noise of the train and people talking, but I was packed in next to the singers for some of the ride.  Of course I have no idea what the song is about.  Not sure about the musical quality, but it definitely caught my emotions and made me smile - the deep kind of smile that quivers and shakes one's whole body.  Something about it must have been that beautiful.  That's the feeling I keep about my experience of India.

I can't seem to find a photo that I feel is appropriate for this link, so click on this sentence for the audio...  mp3 format.
